Emily & Michael
Secrets Moxché Wedding Photographer
Emily and Michael came down from Chicago to get married at Secrets Moxché, on the Riviera Maya just south of Playa del Carmen, and the resort met them halfway. There are really two Secrets Moxché in one place: the clean modern architecture, all glass and pale stone and long concrete lines, and the tropical garden that grows up around it, dense with palms. The building is genuinely beautiful to photograph, and it gave us frame after frame to work with.
The day started with a first look, just the two of them, and a set of private vows exchanged before anyone else was watching. It was quiet and it was emotional, the kind of moment that sets the tone for everything after. We moved into portraits right from there, working through the architecture while the light was still soft, and the photos came easily.
The ceremony was symbolic and unhurried, held in the garden courtyard beside the pool, under a simple wooden arch dressed in white, the water holding the reflection of the whole thing. It was an intimate day, around forty guests, people who had come a long way and were plainly happy to be in one place together. When it ended everyone drifted to cocktails, we finished the last of the shoot in the fading afternoon, and then we joined them.
Secrets Moxché hands you a beautiful setting to begin with. What made this one Emily and Michael's was how relaxed and warm it all felt, small and generous and in no rush, filled with people glad to simply be there together.
